EVENTS

  Hospital Visits

Each month a group of volunteers visit Kaiser Hospital Fontana children's ward. Kaiser Hospital has a Oncology Pediatric ward as well as the regular Pediatric ward. We give away stuffed toys, hats, snacks, candy, and holiday gifts to the kids in the hospital as well as any siblings that may be visiting.

Things We Give Away

Hand puppets are great for babies & pediatric nurses. We also give away "baby" toys.

Hats play an important role in our give away. We look for donations of different & unique hats. These are reserved for the very sick children who maybe experiencing hair loss, etc

Stuffed animals are given to all the hospitalized children & to any siblings that may be visiting at our distribution time.

Books children love to read or have someone to read to them. Books a very welcome and needed donation.

Valentines We give each child, siblings, parent, nurses, & dr.'s valentine cards & chocolate candy. This is always a fun visiting day for everyone on the Pediatric wards.

Easter baskets are delivered filled with holiday treasures. These always put smiles on the faces of children.

Mother's & Father's Day Gifts During the months of May & June we give the ped's patients Mother & Father's day gifts to give to their parents along with a stuffed toy for their self.

Prom & Dinner Dance

We host our annual Prom & dinner/dance for our cancer kids. We collect gently used prom dresses & then host several "shopping days" for girls, moms, grandmas, & sisters to acquire a beautiful dress for our special night. Our families are given the royal treatment by our volunteers. The day begins with teams of volunteers styling hair, painting finger nails and make-up artists doing their make-up. The night consists of photographers taking family photos, boutonnieres, corsages, dinner, dancing, dance lessons, gifts for everyone & lots of door prizes. We have a crowd of 300 with a team of 75 volunteers to make this a very memorable night to our families.

    Back to School Bash

    & Celebrate Life

We give away Backpacks and School Supplies each year to our families. Each child is given a backpack and then they get to fill it with school supplies. We also give several bags of groceries to each family. We have incorporated a "Celebrate Life" portion to this event. Each person/child is given a balloon filled with helium. Each balloon has a string with a card attached at the end. On this card each person writes a prayer, memory, or wish. We say a short prayer over our crowd and then we release our balloons all at the same time. It is a moving experience for everyone involved.

    Easter "Build Your Own

Easter Basket"

Each child is able to stuff their own Easter basket with toys and candy, then a volunteer wraps it in cellophane and puts a bow on it. While their basket is being wrapped up and decorated the family is served lunch. There are games for the kids and a lot of music for a really fun day. We were really surprised at our first Easter event that some of our families traveled over 50 miles to attend it. This event takes a volunteer team of 100 people.

Halloween

Each year we host a Halloween party for Cancer kids and their families. This party provides a night of fun and a "safe" atmosphere for these special kids. It's a night that they don't have to worry about their appearance or how the feel. They are surrounded by "like" kids and their families. The night consists of booth games, dancing, and balloon art, face painting, kids painting their parents faces and toy & candy prizes along with dinner, drinks and dessert. We also have special drawings for door prizes throughout the night for the parents. These door prizes include some basic needs and a $100 gift card. It is really a night of fun for all!

Due to the size of this event and the amount of volunteers needed, we train key people to lead in specific areas to make this party successful. We have a crowd of more than 650 kids and their family each year. The cost to host such an event is quite expensive, approximately $28,000 and takes a volunteer team of at least 155 people. This is a day that our families look forward to all year long it is the most popular event we host!

Christmas "The Big Wrap"

During the Christmas Holiday we provide for each of our families two weeks worth of groceries (dry goods) along with a grocery gift card to purchase perishable items. Along with this food basket we gave each child in the family 6 wrapped new toy gifts and a stocking filled with candies. We utilize a large volunteer team of 300 people to make Christmas happen for these families. We have a night of volunteers wrapping gifts, placing batteries in toys to make sure that the toy works and boxing food items for each family. We provide gifts and food for families all over the Southern California area.
